Traditional Thai Massage

The origins of Thai Massage lie in Buddhism where massage was taught in the monasteries and practiced in the family. In many ancient traditions there is often one person associated with the foundation of the therapy. It was believed that the massage art was brought over to Thailand by a Dr Shivago K.,a contemporary of Buddha almost about 2500 years ago. Dr Shivago was also a physician and many regard him as the father of this branch of medicine.

Thai Massage is usually performed fully clothed, in soft loose clothing which the client brings with them.
It is performed on a mat on the floor and a therapist uses hands, fingers, elbows, knees and feet during the massage. There is no oil used and it moves through deep satisfying stretches, rocking movements and pressure point massage along sen (energy) lines.
Dubbed the “lazy man’s yoga”, it is relaxing yet highly invigorating. The uniqueness of Thai Massage is its ability to include the receiver and giver in its benefits. Both come out feeling more open, stretched, refreshed and balanced.

Traditional Thai Massage - Known in Thailand as Nuad Phaeng Boran, which correctly translates only as ancient massage or traditional massage.  It is usually soothing because of its emphasis on stretching and loosening the body.

The massage recipient changes into comfortable clothes and lies on a mat or firm mattress on the floor. The massage giver leans on the recipient's body using hands and forearms to apply firm rhythmic pressure to almost every part of the taker's body. In some gestures, legs and feet of the giver are used to fixate the body or limbs of the recipient. In other gestures, hands fixate the body, while the feet do the massaging action. Usually no oil is applied. A full course of Thai massage typically lasts two hours or more, and includes pulling fingers, toes, ears etc., cracking the knuckles, walking on the recipient's back, arching the recipient's back in a rolling action etc. There is a standard procedure and rhythm to the massage.

Swedish Massage - The term "Swedish Massage" refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart.  The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.

Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable. Swedish Massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces stress yet revitalizing both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management.  It affects the nerves, muscles, glands, and circulation, while promoting health and well-being.

Deep Tissue Massage - Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber of the muscles, tendons and fascia.

Deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage.
